Why families in Malibu choose Refine

A different kind of psychiatry — built on time, attention, and a whole-person view of care.

Holistic & Integrative Care

We look beyond the prescription pad — weighing sleep, nutrition, lifestyle, and therapy coordination as part of one connected plan built around your whole life.

Unhurried, Private-Pay Model

No insurance clock. Longer first evaluations and 30+ minute follow-ups, with superbills provided for out-of-network reimbursement — so your time with us is truly yours.

Children Through Adults, One Practice

Your whole family, cared for under one roof. Pediatric-trained and adult-experienced providers who coordinate care thoughtfully across every age and stage.

At Refine, care isn’t a menu of services — it’s a philosophy. We start by understanding the full picture of your life, then build a plan that treats the whole person, not just a diagnosis. Medication, when it’s the right tool, is paired with lifestyle guidance and close coordination with your therapist or pediatrician. It’s integrative, unhurried psychiatry that insurance-driven clinics can’t offer — and it’s why families across Southern California trust us with their care.

STUDENTS & CAMPUS LIFE

Mental health care for Pepperdine students

Perched above the Pacific, Pepperdine is a close-knit community of about [3,500] undergraduates. The setting is breathtaking — and, for some students, isolating, with the nearest city a canyon drive away. Pepperdine's Counseling Center offers caring short-term support, but students who need ongoing therapy, medication management, or faith-sensitive care often look just off campus. Refine Psychiatry offers exactly that, with secure telehealth so care continues across international programs, summers, and holidays.

Common concerns we help students with

  • Anxiety, performance pressure, and panic attacks

  • Depression and burnout

  • ADHD — focus, time management, and accommodations (Office of Student Accessibility)

  • Sleep problems and stress that won't let up

  • Homesickness and adjustment — especially for students far from home or abroad

Less common concerns worth a closer look

The college years (roughly 18–24) are when several conditions first surface, and they're easy to mistake for ordinary stress. We evaluate rather than assume:

  • First episodes of bipolar disorder or hypomania

  • OCD and intrusive thoughts

  • Disordered eating

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Substance use that's become a way to cope

Every student gets an individualized care plan — therapy, medication management when appropriate, faith-sensitive care when it's wanted, and coordination with Pepperdine's Office of Student Accessibility — paced around classes and continued from anywhere by telehealth, including Pepperdine's international programs.

Refine Psychiatry is an out-of-network, private-pay practice.

We provide superbills — detailed receipts you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Many of our patients receive 50–80% back.

Staying private-pay lets us spend 60–90 minutes on your first evaluation and 30+ minutes on follow-ups — the kind of time insurance-based practices can’t offer.
